Be free from pride-filled opinions…Don’t allow self-promotion hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first as more important than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3 TPT)

Like an echocardiogram for the spiritual heart, Paul wants the Philippians to check for prideful opinions and self-promoting in theirs.

With these two things in mind, it’s time for my heart check-up. First, my selfish opinions have no value because the Word of God is going to have the final say on everything. Secondly, my gifts and talents will make room for me when I do the hard work to keep my heart in right-standing with God. He will promote me when he decides I’m ready.

A yearly examination is good for my physical heart, but my spiritual heart needs a daily check-up. When I take the time to change my focus from what I want to what God needs me to do his way, then serving others will trump serving myself.

  1. This speaks to my prayer time last night. I want to have a pure and clean heart to be able to share God’s Love, His Truth His Word, and follow His leading as the Holy Spirit teaches and guides me.
