Reading for fun
August 25, 2025

My apologies to Julius Caesar for altering his famous quote,”Vendi, vidi, vici.”

(I came. I saw. I conquered.)

Down in my basement is a storage closet.

And in that closet is a copy of the complete and unabridged Sherlock Holmes stories and novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that I read in the pre-digital age.

The spine is taped to the shabby covers. The pages are browned. It’s well worn.

Throw it away, you say.

Not yet because this is the book that turned my I-don’t-read-thick-books hubby into a read-for-fun guy.

Now Hubby sits on the sofa and travels back in time before we have dinner.

He’s reading for the second time The Raptor, a historical fiction novel by Gary Jennings.

What book have you read or listened to twice for the joy in reading it again? Why?

Really??? I would never have guessed (wink, wink). My twice-reads via audiobook are Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
