In July, I thought I would begin my vision-tweaking process. An examination of my eyes showed that they were still swollen from the surgery, so the UV procedure was postponed for a week. In the meantime, I had to put a salve on my inner eyelids at night to help reduce the swelling.

By the next appointment, the swelling was gone, and the first UV treatment could go ahead. Before that the ophthalmologist discussed with me how I preferred to see. I settled on hybrid vision where my dominant eye will see a distance range and the less-dominant eye will see the mid-to near ranges which is about my arm’s length for computer work. I would still use the 1.50 readers for the small print.

How did the week of test-driving the hybrid vision go? It’s difficult to put into words, but I felt uncomfortable…something wasn’t right with what I could see. When I told the doctor this at the next visit, he said the brain might need more time to adjust to the hybrid vision. After an eye examination, he did tweak my right (dominant) eye and to give this a two-week trial. If I am still uncomfortable, he will make both eyes the best possible intermediate-to-distance range as possible, but I would need glasses for near-to-intermidiate vision.

How am I doing now? Better because the difference between what both eyes are perceiving seems less unbalanced to my brain. Another thing that is helping is improved tear production. After surgery I felt like there was sand, dirt and twigs in my eyes. It was post-op dryness. Even the slightest breeze from the AC caused irritation. I use the artificial tear drops to keep my eyes physically happy and to see clearly. When the eye doctors and technicians tell you to blink-blink-blink, it for a good reason.

Check back in next month to see how this New Vision Journey has moved forward or ended. Thank you for your prayers and comments you have shared during this journey. They are greatly appreciated. See you in September.

  1. I cringe eveytime you talk about the doctor doing something in your eye. Good to hear things are improving and pray your brain gets with the program!
